Aadhaar: A need rather than coounting its breach

Aadhaar is one of the distinguished scheme introduced by UPA government. However the chaos that it has created these days, it has always been in the limelight. Aadhaar mainly was introduced to give each citizen of the country a unique number from which they can be identified. There are many applications of these project and those who have registered with are completely inevitable after doing it. It’s like you become immortal irrespective that only agencies knows you after death, not your dear ones.
The applications of Aadhaar ranges from finding a missing child to recovering the undeclared asset from a personality. Not even this you cannot evit from agencies can be tracked virtually anywhere you are, irrespective of your demographics etc. Sounds theatrical, yet the first sentence was real and we have all observed or would have heard of that. But need not to worry the theatrical would feel would even become realistic once our judiciary system finds it real essence out of it or might need to fast track their schedules for the cases that are done but are finishing aptly.
This doesn’t mean I don’t have faith in democracy and its judicial systems. But I am optimistic instead and know that it’s will be happening someday. That day is not much farther but soon will coming. This also means that crime rates will be on the surge. But this will for sure not going to undermine our faith in ourselves and others. I am happy that NDA found this idea so worth and appealing that they thought to give it a drive, which UPA was struggling with. Not even this wonderful ministers and honorable justices has come out to support the move. One such move was declaration of Aadhaar within the atrocities of Right to Privacy or article 21. Many debates were prominently done on TV but none of was worth to give a try. Because each time such debates are held I always doubt if we have right leaders to discuss such issues. For very large time, in parliament has been obnoxious over intolerance and playing vendetta over there. Neither I think they are enough knowledgeable to participate except few lawyers who are themselves busy in framing the laws and then fighting against it. More humorous thing is that the same lawmakers sometimes present such a mistaken framework that we die out of laugh and regret for choosing them. Cases of Geospatial bill and currently pending Consumer Protection Amendment Bills points to the same.
Enough regrets. Now let’s watch out for the chaos which was created because of Aadhaar. People are taking that it’s against right and stands out of the scope of Indian Cyber Laws. Actually following cases has been countered as per my knowledge.
1.       Leaking of Aadhaar data on government websites.
2.       Unprivileged use of Aadhaar data.
3.       Poor and older people are not able to authenticate fingers because of peeling off of skin.
4.       Continuous linking of Aadhaar resulting in making the Aadhaar a compulsion.
Apart of them, I need to focus on the core development of the idea and strongly think that Aadhaar is a wonderful tool and could play a wonderful role in delivering the output it plays has generous data in form of information or result which could affect lives of millions of Indians and their indigenous role in digging out the relations and statements. I consider myself not any spokesman of the ruling party but I think it becomes my duty to aware the readers to the rights and wrongs about Aadhaar. However everyone has got their own rights and views and may counter them through their own comments.
Aadhaar could be helping tool but no doubt that it is very sensitive and can be used unmistakably or can be abused. With a false identity one can breach the security and even can alter someone’s life. Thereby it’s use is either has to be limited or has to be made so secure that it cannot be abused. Crores of Aadhaar if leaks, could damage the privacy of some lives. Not even this, it could be critically abused by the telecommunication and other interested parties. Considering all this outcome that’s why India is willing to share the Aadhaar database with Israel, which is a top class country in terms of technology and armory. However being a net neutrality wisher I am against data hacks and aware of their misuses. In coming years, data would becoming as the next crude after fuels and would the economy of world, future of the country, availability of inventory, distinguishing righ and wrongs and above all predicting the future. So we can be predictive, so predictive that one can think of. That’s why data is precious and government should take immense step to cover all the aspects of Aadhaar and its protection. Now following are my counter actions for the above cases.
1.       Frankly that’s a very serious issue. Even after developing so much if we are not been able to create useful and informative websites that it is particular of no use of such development. That’s a serious breach that without any hack or development. NIC or other government hosting should handle such cases critically. They must show the sensitivity in their works that how much they are considered about us not after issuing statements after wrongdoings.
Good developers’ team could be hired and guided about the wrongdoings. Security should be in our ethics while we are developing and must be a top most priority even if manager is not worried.
2.       Aadhaar is very much secure that it can’t be breached as easily one can think of. Our all data are transmitted and received encrypted asymmetrically so as to provide any such breach. The case of Airtel Payment’s Bank was a very wrong act. How a cellular company can fill themselves with greed is clear from this case. They only misused their customer data to transfer subsidy. However enough ruling is done and soon the produced judgement for sure will fill our hearts for this case.
3.       That’s shows another scarcity of resources by the government. I don’t know when we go for registering ourselves we record our retina, our face, our fingertips and signature. Still we need to authenticate ourselves with our fingers only. This should not be the case. Let the government not to accustom authorities only with fingerprints authentication but they should also try to avail devices which can verify ourselves with our retina only. Other option is of face recognition. With growing of technology we will soon become familiar with all these devices.
4.       Aadhaar is not compulsory and never should be made. The case is still pending with the Supreme Court. But even if this is done or goes in favor of government, they must convince the citizens with the real applications of Aadhaar. Afterwards free camps should be availed for such people. If one government under the cover of Emergency can make teenagers childless, then why this government cannot enforce Aadhaar for all people. However enforcement is wrong word for democracy. If realistically people would understand they would and are coming with their Aadhaars. However people from Naxal areas and J&K will always pose a challenge.
But Aadhaar should ever be voluntary for us to choose the benefits and services. It’s our right that we must enjoy, why government is leeting it form us. I am telling it because I myself have benefited from Aadhaar in fields on banking. It has made visiting a bank a dream for me today. Today one can open and transact online from any of the remote place and I am graciously happy for it. But government schemes and benefits should be known but not to be enforced on us. Let us to choose what we want.
You encourage us, we’ll do on our own…
